What's in a wildcat name? Thanks. Done.

If I create a new wildcat, can I use proprietary names?

For example, if I create a round based on a short 223 Remington, can I legally name it "223 Remington Short"?

Or is Remington the only folks who can call a new cartridge a Remington whatever?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Most people just think up a name and then name it. I dont think rem cares what you name it to be honest.

Well in order to legally use Remington trademark name as a marketing profit, I am sure you need buy the rights.

For your own terminology non profit use, you can name it anything you desire.

Personally, I would choose a unique name of my own.

I'd not advise using any trade marked name. Some day you might find yourself being called into court over it. If you want to make a .223 Remington Short just call it a .223 Short or toss your own name or something you think up in and leave the trade mark names out.

Thanks Graybeard and others, I think I will find an original name just so we don't go down a path that may end badly. If the cartridge is good enough to go commercial in any quantity, I certainly don't want to go changing names after everyone has been educated on associating the name with the round.

Thx...I have my answer.
