And a few of the Uh-OHs

failure to fire

I really like the very stiff friction primer.

Yeah, I hate it when that happens.  We have had some so tough in the past they broke the lanyard!  We have been making our own now for the past 5 years with no misfires, really work great.  If all the components are purchased in large bulk, the price excluding labor is approximately .11 cents each.  If I add my time in they are probably about $5 each!  But I do enjoy making them so I do not count my time.  I make about 1,200 a year for my unit and one other Battery.

Here is a video a nice gentleman took of the July 2009 Grayling match (it is a bit shaky).  My unit has the Parrott on the very far right of the firing line shooting at the 1,200 yard target.  So can see our two flags at the Limber, Battery D 5th Artillery.  Based upon time of flight we estimate our 10 lb. bolts were averaging 900 feet per second...

The stiff primer is more embarassing than anything.  Especially at a demonstration and some little slip of a woman, usually a teacher, gets one.  The ones that go "pop" lead to the longest 3 minutes you can ask for.
