You can have some input-What would you like to see?
« on: September 20, 2009, 10:47:11 AM »
Between some posts and emails, questions have been asked concerning, why isn't this cartridge or this cartridge offered with Freedom Arm's new Single-Shot Pistol?
I just went ahead and asked FA this question.

One great thing about Freedom Arms is their openness to shooters/hunters desires or wants.

If you are interested in a FA Model 2008 SS Pistol and there is a cartridge you would really like to see become a future chambering, list it!

243 Win is one I would like to see.
280 AI is another one.

I'm NOT the glutton for recoil punishment some are. My old body is rack with arthritis and I have a bone spur or calcium deposit in the web of my right hand at the base of my thumb that makes heavy recoil and wood grips an impossible combination for me.

I guess for me an idea chambering would be the 6.5 JDJ that Bob brought here to my home for me to shoot or perhaps a .257 JDJ and/or 7-30 Waters. All are mild mannered and highly effective deer killing rounds.

I think a rimmed round with the ballistics of the .35 Remington also would be desireable to me tho once the recoil level climbs beyond that it's more than my right hand can take anymore. The old .357 Herrett would be nearly ideal. If rimless rounds work well enough in it the .35 Remington would be nice still I like rimmed rounds in single shots as a preference. The .225 Winchester would make a nice one also.

Bill I know of your long-standing frustration with the 35 Rem in the TC. I am a big 35 Rem fan having a tack driver of one in a Marlin lever no less. When I went about having one set up in a TC I was able to learn at the expense of others the headspace issues plaguing it. I had a barrel made by a custom maker, properly headspaced of course, with a rim cut for Krag brass. That Krag brass provides among the biggest, user friendly rims out there. I have an extractor for rimless 35 Rem brass for the barrel also.

I know this is a bit of a wildcat as is the Herret you mentioned. I agree though they represent a practical package: reasonable powder space, 35-40Kpsi pressure, 180-200gr ideal bullet, recoil yes but not too much. There isn't much else in between the 35 cal straightwalls and the 358Win/35 Whelen that is not an even more offbeat wildcat - yeah the JDJ is in there but it starts to get rough. The 35 is a just great stopper. I live in the northeast where the deer run big, the ranges shorter, and the need for a sub-30 cal deer/bear round is not as great. I should think FA would chamber for some good 35 cal hunting round. I understand the need for it to have some reasonable commercial availablity. What exactly it should be I'm just not sure.

Will the 348 Winchester fit?  What about the 356?
