progressive reloading press

New guy here with a querry. First off name is Jerry located in north central Pa right here next to the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon, I have just recently pruchased an older model contender with a .223, 30-30, and 45-70 barrels thus far I have only shot the 30-30 and it shoots very well. My question to all is about progressive presses, what is the best bang for the buck? Presently I am doing what reloading I do on an rcbs jr my wife bought for me about 36 years ago. My free time is limited so therefore considering going progressive or maybe just one of the newer powder thrower's and digital scales that is the part of the operation that seems to use up the most time. Thanks for any input.

I reloaded for quite a while on a single stage press but the volume of pistol ammo was too much so I opted for a Hornady LNL AP progressive press.   I have had it for several years and it works great but I don't load rifle ammo on it.  I measure case length and trim as needed after sizing and that just won't work with the progressive.  A good powder thrower will throw consistent charges if the operator learns to keep each stroke of the thrower arm as close to the same as each previous stroke  which eliminates the need to weigh each individual charge, thereby speeding up the process imensly.  I have found ammo charged with the powder thrower as accurate as the same load that has been weighed and trickled.  So my progressive is used for straight walled pistol cases loaded with carbide sizer dies.

i use a dillon 550 and  lnl hornadys and there both good presses. As to why a non indexing press it gives a guy the option of using it like a single stage press if you want.

Lloyd has a very good point here, I have a 550 and swear by it.

I've had a 550B for for 15 years, it's a great press and I've had no problems with it.

I've got both, a Dillion 550, and a Redding T-7 turret. Wouldn't get rid of either one. Both have their purpose. Dillion for my blamo ammo,(mostly,40-45-9mm) and the Redding for my serious stuff.(6mm A.I.,219DW,.270,.375) gypsyman
