Drop-away rest and vane alignment
« on: September 20, 2009, 04:11:10 PM »
I just picked up a used bow with a trophy taker drop away rest.  For those of you who shoot a similar rest...does it matter what the vane alignment is?  In other words, should the cock feather (or vane) be up, out, or down?  Or does it not matter as long as the vanes are clearing?

Thanks

I have the same drop rest and I put the cock feather down.  That is the way the bow shop set it up originally and I've kept it that way for the last 4 years. I don't know what the difference would be as long as it clears.  You will like that rest a lot!

I disagree with that ..it should be cock vane up..but if you don't have clearance issues it doesn't matter- kevin

I set mine up with cock feather out just to make sure there is no interference with the cables, it really doesn't matter with a dropaway rest, as long as all your arrows are the same.

I shoot mine up i have a friend shoots his down i dont think it makes a difference.  I have shot mine both ways and grouped my arrows together. So i think its your preference.

Yeah, I shot with the cock vane up last night and there was no difference in flight or impact.

As long as it clears the shelf and the cables that is all that matters, oh and you're arrows are hitting consistent.

Here is a tip that may help. Get yourself some spray powder deoderant  apply to the fletch and rest shoot a while, and watch to see if any of the powder is coming off.

Cock feather/vane is the one that is in line with your knock.  The single color.

If you nocks rotate which most do these days that isn't the case. You can rotate your nock to which ever position you want them, up, down, sideways, what ever you prefer. However unless you want all vanes/feathers the same color generally speaking the odd color is the cock feather.
