Excellent looking project.  You have not stated if your new barrel has a fully supported chamber or is an undercut feed ramp.  As you probley know this can be a factor in weather you use standard 38 Super ammo are the hotter Corbon Ammo.  Also will this chamber be able to allow the 9x23 you seem to like? 8)  Rawhidekid

It is supported.
It will shoot 9x23---aint that sweet.
The front strap was left alone for engraving.
The new grips should be in shortly.
I will admit that this is a lot of fun--for me and it seems for others also.
It is really not a chore but just taking one thing at a time and not being in a hurry.

Thats purdy William, like me, a work in progress!

Sometimes patience is a virtue, within reason.  Bill, getting him to give you a date for "first stage" completion, i.e. completing the front strap, or the right side of the slide, something like that.  Then you can get him off of the mark with a more manageable job for him.

Lots of people procrastinate on jobs that they see as "big", when they'd be just fine if they would break the job into little parts, and measure each part as an individual job.

Plus, if you can get him started, those graver guys just seem to keep on going until he's done.

I can't wait to see it all done.

BBQ gun...... ???  Do you shoot it at BBQ's or just show it off at BBQ's? ???

I think of a BBQ gun as if sasquatch is going to take my viddles.  I say take my woman,  take my money but don't mess with my viddles.(kidding of course)  But really don't mess with my food. All we do is to Grille up here in the north we don't really have real BBQ.  I never had it yet.  I been thinking about welding up a BBQ smoker recently too. I like the wood flaver when i add wood to the grille too.  I like to cook on more wood anyhoo.

BBQ is just large hunks low and slow.
You can BBQ on your grill.  If you have a Webber just put the fire on one side and close the holes in lid down most of the way and put them on the other side, so the smoke and heat goes over the meat.
I think Pork would be a good first try.
Get a Pork shoulder (sometimes called a Boston Butt) make a rub.  (3 parts kosher salt, and one part - Garlic powder, onion powder, brown sugar, and 1/2 parts paprika, black pepper, and cayane if you want it hot.
Rub the rub on the outside of the meat and put the meat on the heat on the cold side ofthe grill.
Let it smoke and cook for a couple hours and turn it, let go for another couple hours. and flip.
For a sauce.  Well e-mail me and I will give you a couple different ideas of sauces for the pork.
If you have a Propane grill that too is easy and you just turn on and off the burners and toss wood chips in an foil packet on top of the burners under the meat and get the flavor.
With all the time standing around the smoker / grill/ or cooker now you know why guys make BBQ guns to talk about, brag about or to take out to the back 40 and shoot a little.

What you see in the pics is what it is.
The engraver would not correspond with me.
I called and said i would be up the next day and for him to let me have the gun back.
He did not even have the guts to talk to me--had a buddy?? answer the door and hand it to me.
It will go as it is---which is nice---to get a nice shiny blue job.
Life is a bitch and then you die.
I have better things to worry about than this.

William;  Sorry to hear about this.  Maybe you can find someone else to do it?  I'm looking into doing more gunsmith work on 1911's, well more knowledge anyhoo.  There's a reason for my madness.

Many years ago i dropped off a rear differential for my drag race car to have lower ratio gears installed in it.  I paid the guy and all i had to do was to pick it up.  When i got there the backlast wasn't set correctly.  Like you with no engraving I took it to my garage and finished adjusting it myself. Ever since i learned at that timke i can't rely on anyone but myself to get things done and things done right.  This is why i refuse to have anyone work on my stuff.  I try to teach my sons the sameway to just dig into it and fix it.  I wonder how hard it is to do engraving?

Oooooooooo ;D  I'm glad to hear that you pushed the issue, sorry about the engraver.  There are many fine ones, you might consider mailing the slide to someone.  Looks like a nice gun.
