"License to Carry" permits

I just thought of another topic, so here goes.  How many of you have license to carry permits?  Stories?

EDIT: Also share with us what you're carrying.  Mine is Kimber Tactical Pro II .45ACP

Mine has expired since spending the last 3 of 4 years stationed in Germany.  One day soon, I will get another.  My parents both have theirs.

That's good to know.  I will have to invest a little to get the lifetime license.

You guys are aware there is no such thing as a "concealed carry permit" in the state of Indiana aren't you?  What we have is a "license to carry handgun" as there are no restrictions as to how you carry, concealed, open or otherwise.  The lifetime license is identical to the old 4 year license except without an expiration date.

Yes, Old Syko is correct.  When I first got my license, I was told that I could carry it any way I wanted to as long as I was willing to deal with every "Barney Fife" in the county placing me in the "spread eagle" position until they found that I possess a license to carry. It's just not worth it if you ask me. That's why I go concealed most of the time. That also covers us while we're hunting and carrying an approved sidearm, when it's illegal to carry it concealed. ;)

I have a holster for my 14" contenders. It goes on the side under the arm. You cross draw it. It is pretty difficult to conceal - maybe with a 3/4" length coat ;D I have a S&W Model 66 with 4" barrel that I like real well, but if you are not used to it, it can get weighty after awhile.

That's exactly the way I carry mine with a 10" 357 Herrett barrel.  The longer barreled scoped rigs go in the crossdraw rigs like Otto describes.

Whoever told you this didn't understand Indiana law.  Any attorney worth his salt would have a field day after such a situation.  It's not that unusual here to see open carry in public here.  Most people don't even notice.  During deer season it's almost expected.  For protection purposes I carry concealed, but not for hunting.

We had a similar situation when quads were first legalized for highway use here, but once the fifes made a few unnecessary stops things were explained to them more clearly and that issue quickly went away.

Got my lifetime last fall. this is the third state I`ve one in, Wash., Tn.,and In. I carry mainly my cz82 9x18 now, sometime my S & W 5903 9mm and if I`m really feeling brave I carry my cannon, a NAA 22 mag.  I just got the CZ 82 in Jan. it`s the best fit in my hand that I`ve ever had. I`ve really been looking at the CZ 2075 RAMMI it really lloks sweet.

A little advice on the lifetime permit.  As soon as you get it and before you sign the thing, get the proper pink paper and make copies.  This is only paper and will deteriate quickly so it is good to have spares.  I carry a laminated copy and keep others along with the original stashed. Yes, I know it states that only the original is valid but with the proper paper no one can tell the difference.  Better so be safe than sorry.

I purchased the lifetime permit to carry last year. I think I paid the Clark County Sheriff's dept $50.00 and a certified check to the state for $75.00. I'm glad I got it done. I think it will be like the lifetime hunting licenses, and they will do away with them eventually.

I carry a Ruger LCR.

I like revolvers... ;)

The permits cost $100 if you currently have a permit.  They are $125 if you have let you permit expire or have never had a permit.  My wife and I applied for ours as soon as we were within 180 days of our 4 year permits expiring.  

Indiana quit issuing lifetime hunting and fishing licenses.  I bought a lifetime comprehensive hunting a fishing licence back in 1986 so I am safe.  If you trust that Indiana will always offer lifetime handgun carry licenses you may get a rude awakening if they end them and you are still over 180 days away from your old permit expiring as you will not be elligible to apply for a lifetime license.  For peace of mind, better to get one as soon as possible.

I have carried a Glock 21 since 1991, but have gotten so fat it has started to print.  I cut the grip down and textured it creating a 21/30.  My old dim Meprolite night site is adjustable and extends to the rear of the slide.  It creates a shelf that my shirts lay on and is noticible.  I'm going to switch to a lower profile fixed night sight.  Lately I've been carrying an old Marlin 1887 5 shot 38 S&W revolver that hides very well in my belly band.  

I bought a used Kahr CW 40 S&W 11 months ago.  After less than 40 rounds the barrel and receiver peened and the extractor ejected from the pistol.  Strangely though the pistol never failed to feed, fire or eject a round and I didn't even notice the damage until several days later.  It has to go back to the factory as I've read of others experiencing the same damage to their pistols.  I've read the factory modifies the polymer frames and installs new barrels and slides under warranty work.  Nice little carry pistol if it wouldn't self destruct.............Mike

It is true that you are not "required" to conceal carry. With that being said..... if you are open carrying, be prepared to be stopped by the police. I have seen it MANY MANY times.. A guy was in Walmart and was carrying a very large handgun on a western style gun belt. It was kinda cool looking haha, though I am not sure exactly what model the gun was. Well, within no time .. someone had called and reported it.. and the police showed up... and checked him out... He was legit and doing nothing wrong.. but the mere presence of the firearm unnerved someone enough it was reported :-\

Basically if you are open carrying in a public place you're going to get stopped and questioned. I personally feel better about being in a place where I know other people have firearms lol but that is just me.

I always have my G27 available when out and about.

concealed....only  in public
open  carry is specifically forbidden in public
i just read that today  as i am  currently  renewing my permit


357 mag   640  smith  centennial
[pocket holster..keeps it cleaner...required when i go to GA]


44mag  5 inch  during hunting season [some times]

i think  it is good  that people carry openly
carrying is a part of out culture that is  being threatened

I have my lifetime permit. Many diff carry guns, 22's, 380, 9mm, 38spls, 357mag, 1911, what ever mood I'm in and what (or where) I'm goin.

lifetime carry permit, but usually dont carry anything, unless i have my ruger super redhawk 44 mag. with me.  i just thought it would be wise to get it .  i was laid off from work at the time, but just like my lifetime comprehensive hunting license, i found the cash to get em bought.  so glad i did.  i hope everyone, weather you carry or not, or even own a gun, gets it. brian

I have a lifetime permit, but I don't carry.  I recently picked up a xd subcompact in 9mm in case I ever decided to carry though.
