Weaver model 44/40 scope
« on: September 22, 2009, 08:31:28 PM »
I am thinking about buying a 3X9 and a 4X12  44/40 Weaver scope. My boy has a 3X9X38 on his muzzleloader and likes it. It's not the 44/40 but the V9, I think. Anyone have any experiance with the 44/40 scopes. Thanks, Don

same scope is still being sold under former name, Intensity Optics or Federal at half price of Weaver name.  RFC has thread here:

Are basically Simmons 44 Mag scopes, or are made at old OEM in Phillipines

The one I'm talking about is a Weaver model 44/40. It is a new model for 2009, I think. Don

read the thread or don't read the thread.  it is the same scope

on a later page of the longgggg thread, someone tells about how he talked to ATK.  The Intensity brand name (crappy brand name if you ask me) was discontinued.  They are retaining the Nitrex brand name (never heard of it either).  The Intensity scopes are being rebranded to Weaver 40/44 scopes.  ATK owns Weaver now/again.

Phillippine made is better as a group than Chinese made.  Japanese made are better as a group than Phillippine.  Both V-series and 40/44 have lifetime warranties.

Thanks for the reply. I was looking at a 3X9X40 at Natchez and didn't realize it was the same as shown. I may try one from Sportsman's guide till I can raise the funds for a Leupold. Thanks again, Don

I don't know how much shipping is, but Sportsman's Guide supplies the same item in Amazon marketplace at $49.97 plus $10.49 shipping.

I strongly dislike Sportsman's Guide, but that is the cheapest price that I found.  They don't let you get a shipping estimate without registering on their website.

I am debating this 3-9 scope or another half case of Romanian 8mm ammo.  After this $100 is spent, then I have to save for Christmas.  Of course, there is always another Mosin at $79 too...........

I basically have 2 price points for scopes, $100 and $250.

When you get the Leupold money, take a look at the Nikon Team Primos 3-9x40.  It is apparently a Monarch scope, but is right at $200 if you shop around.  The newer Monarchs are 2.5-10's now.  The important point is that they are Monarch lenses.

I have been really happy with my old style (2 years old) Monarch, best scope money that I have spent.
