This is a great program that has recently captured a group of teens that otherwise may be getting in trouble somewhere, 16-17 year olds. This together with the Apprentice License Program will get more teens/kids in the woods. Kudos to the IN DNR.

  The nephews are all too young, oldest is 6.  Maybe in a few years I can teach him to shoot. I have taken him squirrel hunting and we saw 7 deer. If you ask him, he's ready to go now. ;D ;)  Great kid with good eyes.  He found the squirrels that I shot when they fell in the brush. He's a natural. :)  I just hope my daughter get's the hunting fever from me. 8)

 I'll be taking my grandson out again this year. He is 11 and the last 2 years I've taken him with no success during the youth hunt, but had an 8 point walk about 10 yards from us at one time. We liked watching that deer, but we didn't see any Does that he would have been able to shoot. I have a Handi rifle in .357 mag that he likes to shoot and it has the youth stocks on it. My grandson isn't too worried if he doesn't get a Doe, because during regular gun season he does real well....

My 8 year old grandson is going with his Dad. We have a ground blind and a buddy stand up and his 357 mag handi is sighted in and ready to go. He has the latest best safety gear and has practiced on a full size deer target out to 50 yards. His shot opportunities will be at 25 to 30 yards and he won't sleep well Friday night. I hope he sees something.

I think it is a shame that the youngsters don't get the opportunity to shoot the first deer that presents a good shot.

 Down in the bottoms where we hunt, it is like a Doe and Fawn depository. We see bucks, but does are a lot more avalable. So really around here it would not matter if they could shoot bucks. The last youngen I took on the youth early season, we had a monster of a 12 point walk under us. I actually thought it was a cow at first glance. You want to talk about checking your ethics? He wanted it so bad. I wanted it even worse. But we watched as he strolled on by :'( Never did see that brute again.

Well at about 9:00 oclock this morning my grandsons .357 handi cracked and a 110 lb field dressed doe was the result. He took the shot at 58 yards and bagged his first deer. It sure is great for him to have the experience.

 Great job!  Be sure to congratulate him for me. Is this his first deer? Did you get any pictures of the proud hunter and his deer?  ;)

  Outstanding! My boy had football practice, and was tired from his game Fri night. So he didnt feel like going. Will see how he is this morning.

  I was out working around the yard this morning, didnt hear any gun shots. Wondering if the word got out about the youth season. On the upside. Talked with a neighbor short bit ago(1 am) he just seen a big buck 1/4 mile from the house. Was with other deer crossing the road. He couldnt tell what the others were they had already crossed. ;)

  Looks like there's something new coming down the pipe.  Take a look at the proposal for an either-sex Youth Deer Season.

Unfortunately I don't think it took root this year or at least one of us would have known about it.  :(  Better odds for next year's hunt! :)

 Maybe that will motivate more to hunt. I think that is part of my boys problem. Would have been nice a few years ago when we seen the biggest freeking deer ever. Watched walk under us and on down the creek :'(
