More Golf Ball Ammo
« on: September 24, 2009, 02:23:27 AM »
Hi, Wanted to try lead balls in my Dictator mortar but don't have any casting equipment or experience. I found a source of inexpensive hollow practice golf balls and decided to try a different approach. A quarter inch hole was drilled into each ball with a brad point bit in the drill press for a nice clean hole. Filled the ball with #9 lead shot and plugged them with a steel epoxy. Each ball weighs 210 grams +/- 2 grams and sizing is OK.  I've shot a few and so far no damage to the balls despite their being plastic.  Maybe they'll hold up for a few shots each, time will tell. Regards, LSC

Do the plastic spheres have dimples?  What is the diameter?  Where did you purchase the spheres?

The balls do have dimples and are exactly the same size as a regulation golf ball.
Buck-a-ball sells them in a twelve pack.  Wonder how they'd shoot in your new Dom Parrott?

You could probably mix the lead shot with the epoxy and fill the balls for a more solid projectile.
