weavers need t.l.c.
« on: September 24, 2009, 06:30:12 AM »
i have a coupla steel tube weavers that need cleaning or some such. lenses appear to have dust or rust on them(inside lenses). need to have them cleaned inside. don't want to drop a whole lot on these as they are not real valuable but, they are good steel tube weavers. the scopes work as is but very hard to see through. if anyone can help, i'd appreciate it. have a good'un, bubba.

Most likely what you "think" you are seeing inside the lens is acutally separation of the doublets. IF so that means they must be replaced or taken apart and be reground and recemented as well as recoated. NOT a cheap process either way.

Sure there are folks out there who specialize in reworking the old Weaver's but you'd be money ahead to just dump them and buy new scopes with more modern technology. Even the cheapest of today's scopes are in reality superior to those old Weaver scopes. They never were that good to begin with.
