jhm and savageT,

Where did you guys get this information?  Reason I'm asking is my daughter's husband left her Nylon 66 and it has a green stock.  What does the green stock mean?  It has to be in near new condition as he put less that 500 shots thru it.  My daughter hasn't shot it as she has her own 10/22 I built up for her.  I was just wondering where you got this information.  Lawdog

A good friend recently bought a new in the box, never fired, brown stocked Mohawk for $75.  Very accurate fun shooter.  He shot in our  monthly Hunter Rifle silhouette match and won first place.

I have several Rem. nylons they are excellent plinkers. Some say best ever built including 10/22, and they will never be made again so they are somewhat collectable. To find out what folks are paying for them check Gunbroker.com or Auctionarms .com. There is also a Remington Nylon group they will be happy to help with any questions. Also some good info in the links section.See you there I hope.

I saw a Nylon 66 with a silver colored barrel and receiver (nickel?), and black stock at a gun show a couple weeks ago. It looked to be in good condition, but the guy at the table was nowhere to be found.

Bought one for my wife years ago, and the thing runs like a Swiss watch. I really need to get it down over the bags and seriously sight it in though, might be my eyes have changed enough that I'm seeing those sights differently--happens, you know. Hey, it's a great shooter. They actually put a decent set of Partidge type sights on these> think I will black out that white insert, though, that might be throwing me off.

I currently own four of these excellent rifles. They are accurate and sturdy and will last  with the usual care you would give any firearm. In fact they are almost indestructable. And my black and chrome Apache is the sharpest looking little shooter I have ever seen.

Yes, my grandfather bought it when they 1st came out, it was the offical ranch gun, bounced around behind the pickup seat, that gun has killed about 10 jillion rabbits, it still fires and never jams, truley one of the best 22s ever.
It rest next to the back door on gaurd for  feral cats and coons, still on the job for most of 50 years.

What did they call the bolt action model? One of the better shooters had one at the Winnsboro silhouette match last year. He used it in the informal team shoot where each member shoots a different animal. Everybody, including me, was razzing him. "What's the trigger weight?""About 8 pounds. Wanna try it?"
I was in the crowd of amused onlookers. Of course, he hit ten pigs. When the last one fell he turned to us and said:"Deal with it!"

AJJ   there were 3 Nylon bolt actions the Model 11 was a single shot the model 12 clip fed and the smooth bore .All collectable, just saw a smooth bore go for over $3,000 on auction arms before Christmas. Not bad for a fifty dollar gun.

I have the one my father bought in the late 50s.  I remember him looking at it in a catalog and finally my mother ordered it for him.  We lived on a farm in central California and the 66 did the normal farm chores etc.  We tried to put a scope on it in the middle 60s and that didn't work.  The built in groves didn't like the rings we purchased, and we scratched up the grove area trying to make it work.  When Dad died he had two guns left:  a K frame Smith 38 special and the 66.  I chose the 66 and my brother took the K frame.  It was a hard choice. My brother and I learned to shoot on those two guns.

That little .22 is the last gun I would sell.  I hope one of my sons feels lucky to have it when I go.  I haven't shot it for years, but this string makes me want to take it out.  My boys are both adults, but perhaps one of them may want to go with me on this shoot...

I wanted a nylon 66 so bad when I was a kid.  Went to buy one when Gart Sports was moving their main Denver store in about 1971.  Saw a lever action nylon 76 and bought it instead for $35.  I still use it and it is a great gum with open sights, never could get a scope to work well with it though.

I bought a used  Nylon 66  at a gun show many years ago for about $45 bucks. I really never  thought much of the rifle because it was so much like the plastic rifles I played with as a child.   However, I have to say it's a keeper.  It's a lot of  fun and I use it to introduce novices to shooting.  With its light weight, it's ease of handling and the scope sight mounted on it, it's a great plinker.

Over the years I have found the easiest  way to convert anti-gunners is to  take them shooting and  let them experience the pleasure, relaxation and excitlement of plinking with a .22LR.  The Nylon 66 is  perfect.  No weight. No recoil. Easy to use.  Set up tin cans, balloons, and empty .22 cartridge boxes at modest ranges and they can't miss.  They love it!  (And truth be told, so do I).

I have the brown version and love to shoot it.  It has always worn a scope and I have never had issues with it falling off.  In fact I just bought a better scope for it.  It was my first gun and I too will never get rid of it!

Forgot to add about cleaning it........I dont take it apart because when I was young I tried and a spring or something came apart inside and then it wouldn't cycle rounds.  Luckily I liveed near Remmington and took it there and had them fix it.......no charge!  Anyway to clean it use a bore snake or one of those flexible patch worms and clean from the receiver.

I had a nylon 66 when I was a kid and it must have been a lemon. This rifle was never reliable, and I was always having jams every other round. This gun I will NEVER forget!
I lived in the woods as a boy(and still do) and this was my first rifle of any kind, and I vividly remember how destressed I'd get every time I'd take it out hunting. The distress was probably because I either had to use this gun or not hunt.
All the next summer I bucked hay for people and saved enough to buy a Marlin 39 lever action and still have that gun to this day. Needless to say I fell in love with this gun (didn't know about girls then)
From what I've read I must have had a lemon and to this day whenever I see one I cringe.
Quality will be remembered long after price is forgotten

I bought a Nylon 66 when they first came out. I think I paid $44.95 for it. I only have cleaned it twice and it functions perfectly, and it's accurate. It has no serial #.

NEVER take the 66 receiver apart!  There are multiple horror stories of the effort necessary to reassemble.  Go to the Yahoo groups 66 bunch and as about stripping a 66 :).

My 66 was given by way of inheritance when my dad died.  My brother and I divied up the firearms.  He took the two he'd bought for dad and I took the two dad bought for me when we hunted together (my brother is 7yrs younger so we didnt hunt together much).  I got the 66 of my childhood and it will stay in semi-retired status.  My sons carry it, I train "non-shooters" with it but other than that it sits in the cabinet with warm memories.

One time last year I was carrying the 66 for some in the woods fun when I looked down at my hand and instantly "saw" the hand of a 17yr old....I'm now 46.

My Dad bought me one when I was 9 years old.  I still have it and hunt with it.  I am now 45!  One word of caution.  DO NOT TAKE IT APART TO CLEAN IT!!!!!  The instruction manual specifically tells you not to take it apart further than taking the receiver cover off.  If you do, you will not be able to get it back together nor will a gunsmith.  As I said, I still hunt with mine and it is almost indestructible.  I have an old Bushnell Banner 3X9 with plain crosshairs on it.

Naah,
I've taken mine apart a couple of times to give it a thorough cleaning. I got it back together and iit works perfectly. The first time I had a little trouble. Although you can probably clean it good enough by taking off the receiver and spraying some kind of cleaner like wd-40 in it.
