O/T - Humane rodent entertainment for Gary (Rocklock1)...
« on: September 25, 2009, 01:02:35 AM »
A while back, Gary noted that launching squirrels out of cannons and/or catapults isn't nice. I suggested squirrel fishing (catch & release) instead. I took some pics yesterday...

Here's my Son, using a peanut butter-coated toothpic for bait. Very effective; we got a bite on the 1st cast...

Even more effective is the peanut butter-coated stick. Couldn't get a pic, but we were able to get him to latch on and go for a ride...

You gotta get 'em onto the coals before they know what's up (Just kidding!)...

Our ancient tent isn't up to high winds (note how the trees are bent) so we rented a yurt...

We heard noises during the night. In the morning we investigated and found...

About five of them piled out as soon as I lifted the tarp. My Son and I thought it was cool! My Wife, although very animated as they flew around us, thought it slightly less cool.

Wish I could shoot my cannons off the deck...

That's very similar to how I cat-fish.

A 1/4oz practice plug and three steps out the front door.

1 or 2 casts and I have 1 to 3 cats chasing the practice plug!

Great entertainment!  Good practice on casting too.

Best entertainment is when doing it at night -- no one's vision is good and the fear factor goes up for the cats.

barbless hooks i'm hoping .........looks like fun .  ;)

as a kid we would cast our lines up into the air , the bats come and grab 'the bait' just a plug usually .

never used a hook .

i saw a youtube the other day with a squrriel water sking .....then he jumped on the boat .

Where the heck is it that you took the photos?  Part of me wants to say Castaic Lake.  How many thousands of miles off am I?

I'd love to do a few shots across water.  Preferably from right on the shore and with a good camera.  I bet the surface of the water would be interesting.

 Gary,

No hook, just something they like that will stay on the line a while. Peanuts in the shell work good.

 Subdjoe,

Close... It's lake Cachuma. Castaic is ~50 miles away I think.

It's been a dream of mine to have property on my own private lake (or big pond) where I could shoot mortars into it...
