Dolphins for Dan
« on: September 25, 2009, 05:07:09 AM »
These dolphins are on a Spanish cannon now at US Naval Academy, Annapolis MD USA.  Does anyone have a name for these hybrid beasties?

Here's the entry regarding this interesting piece, from the 1925 Catalogue.

"War, Mexican, Gun, Spanish, 8-pdr. Bronze, length, 7'8", bore 4 1/4". Captured by U.S. Navy from Mexicans in California in 1847. "Por Pablo en Torys Y Huerta ANODE 1769. Spanish coat of arms Sefundoieron En Lima Siendo Virrey Governador Y Capitan Gral El Ex mas D Manvel De Amat Y Junient Reynando El SD Carlo Tercero."
