« on: September 25, 2009, 07:47:09 AM »
I'm getting ready to sight in a gun for a friend of mine.He just had eye surgery and can't shoot for awhile.I have a short hand gun a nd rim fire range(25 yds). How should I try to get it sighted in?How high or right on at 25yds.He wants a 200yd zero.Shooting the 140 fusion load,Federal I think it is.Tried a search on ballistic table and none went down to 25 yds. Thanks,Slow

that will be quite an extrapolation.

I'd definitely try to get it to 100 yds, or better an actual 200 yd target.
Though taken from established manufacturers' sources and presumed to be safe please do not use any load that I have posted. Please reference Hogdon, Lyman, Speer and others as a source of data for your own use.

Assuming a bullet BC of .45 (based on reverse calculations using the graphs at http://www.fusionammo.com and “Point Blank” (a free ballistic calculator and a very good one), a zero of 200 yards requires a sight in at 25 yards at about -0.19”.

You really need to get to a 100 yard range, though.

Once again I say YOU CANNOT tell anything about where a rifle will hit at 200 yards from what it does at 25. Argue all ya want it is just plain not possible. If ya can't shoot it out to at least 100 yards then what you do at 25 is basically just burning ammo.

Who the H is arguing - I said he needed to get to a 100 yard range, same as you.

Sight dead on at 25 yards bullet path will be within 4"+ or- for 300 yards and should kill anything it hits properly.

Understand but EVERY TIME this subject comes up someone jumps in and says sure you can do it that way. Kinda like the last post prior to this one.  ::)

I, like most here, site at 25 yds to "get close on paper".  But there is a world of dif between 25 and 100 yds.  Not just vertically but things can change horizontally also.
