Leupold ultimate slam scope for BC 45/70
« on: September 27, 2009, 01:30:56 PM »
Hello folks

I was entertaining the thought of mounting a scope on my buffalo classic and was wondering if the ultimate slam scope would be a good choice.  Leupold is a good make and with it being made for muzzle loaders I thought it would be plenty rugged enough.  The holdover points could also be handy with the 45/70.  Looking for ideas.  Thank you.

Actually, I have 2 of them. I like the scope. I have one on my 10 point crossbow and another on a 25/06. I don't see any reason why they wouldn't be great on the Handi.

Thanks Pete for the input. I think I will give one a try.  I am curious what ranges the holdover points would work at with the long barreled buff classic. Thanks again Pete.  :)

I was at the range yesterday and thought you may be interested in this. The Leupold muzzle  loader scope is far from a target scope...but for hunters, it' hard to beat.

I wa working up loads for the 25/06.

This is my sight in at 100 yards using the crosshairs and yes, it is a little large (about an inch) but read on

After firing all the different loads in two bullet weights, and using the first dot below the crosshairs at a 6:00 hold, this is my best 250 yard group. This is a good 250 yard group for me. I don't shoot as well as I used to.

Tiny orange fly ;D

Xlt, remember that when uing the dots, the lower the power setting on the scope the higher the bullet strike. It' a catch 22 thing.

What's that about an 1.5" at 250? How did you shoot when you were younger? One hole?
If he's carrying a singleshot, don't expect a warning shot!

You would just have to figure how many MOA the dots are from the center and compare with your ballistics.

Maybe not one hole....but closer ;D

In all honesty, I am not shooting as consistently as I used to. I developed diabetes a couple of years ago and how I shoot at any particular time, is a crap shoot.

Sometimes I can see perfectly, sometimes it's all a blur. Sometimes I'm rock steady, sometime I shake like I have buck fever. It's a curse ::)
