Looks to me like the best way to put a red dot on a Ruger Revolver that doesn't isn't a Hunter model might be with JP Enterprises JPoint Holographic sight and bases (adapters) the goes in where the rear sight is normally. Link to page w/adapters:

The are small, compact, light weight; mount where the rear sight is mounted w/o modification to the revolver allowing to to be put back to original configuration easily.
