Does it feed jacketed rounds OK? I've never had problems feeding 120 gr, 150 gr, or 173 gr cast bullets through any of my 94's--pre-64 or the vintage you have. Those versions made from 1964 through about 1971 or thereabouts had a stamped steel cartridge lifter that most of the time would become problematical, resulting in jams. Lots of times the cartridge you'd be trying to chamber would slip below that lifter. The fix was to get a newer, sintered-steel lifter that came out to the public around late 1971 and replace that tinny stamping with it -the problem should go away. My post-64 was made with one of those later lifters and has never failed to feed anything I've put through it--even those stubby little jacketed 110 grainers made by Hornaday and intended for the 30 carbine. The short lead 311008 Lyman bullet (115 grain) feeds just as well as any longer bullet. Check out that lifter in that 94 of yours. If it's the tinny stamping, it most likely needs replacing. A capable gunsmith--preferably one who is old, crusty and bitches about shortymags and various other newfangled things is the kind of guy you should have look at this 94--let him fix it and you'll have a dependable truck gun that should last a lifetime.
