The third side of the equation IMO is: Where in hades was a parent of this girl?? The only thing I read was that her mother was supposed to be in that house. If so, it brings several questions to my mind.

I have not followed this story to know the actions of the mom. When I was working in Lynchburg, VA, a woman caught her boyfriend in bed with her young daughter. She took matters in hand. She yanked off one testicle and the other one was so mangled it had to be removed surgically. Problem identified, problem solved.

Oldtimer didn't mention how old the daughter was. Depending on her age she might have not known any better. A 14 year old for example isn't ready for sex, but they usually know what it is and should know to tell their parents or something if an older person is attempting to get with them. IE, at that age they should know better.

Younger children however often have no knowledge whatsoever and are naturally very impressionable regarding what an adult says. You can't really lay any blame on these younger children when it happens, even if they did "consent" (consent in quotations marks since they can't legally consent at that age). This is why you'll often see much harsher penalties handed down for those who have consensual relations with a child pre-puberty versus post-puberty. Both deserve to be punished, but I'll agree that if a guy sleeps with a 5 or 6 year old then I'd say he deserves a lot worse than someone who sleeps with a 15 or 16 year old (which is of varying legality either way. it varies by state, but the majority, 62%, of states consider 16 to be the age of consent anyways).

Absolutely, but I hope you aren't trying to lessen Polanski's crime with that thinking. It doesn't matter what her mother did or didn't do, Polanski was still a child rapist.

The latest on this that I read was a $500K settlement that was supposed to have been paid to the victim way back when.
Whether it ever had isn't known and considered doubtful. That doesn't surprise me in the least.

His money is going to get him off. He pleaded guilty to a lesser charge and still was set free till time to go in . He ran and has been free since then. She on the other hand has received compensation (MONEY). He still should serve time no matter how much she received. He was guilty and was to receive time. Let him go to a REAL jail not some country club for rich bad guys. There he can find a good friend in a big con that will give him all the consentual sex he needs!!!!!!!!!

The culture he supports sees nothing wrong with raping girls much younger than 13. His mohamed married a 7 year old, but waited til she was the ripe old age of 9 before he raped her, so he said. Not doubting you, but what jurisdiction are you in? I've never heard of anywhere even having the option of of a life sentencing option for statutory rape (when it even gets charged that way - often for a girl at 14 the offender will just get "Corruption of a minor" which is a much lesser charge).
