So I recently purchases a remington 700 sps tactical .308 with a leuopold 3-9x40.  Iam now trying to pick out the right rail mount along with rings.  I don't want to spend a whole lot, but Im looking for some trusty mounts.  Any ideas?  thanks

My SPS Tac has Weaver bases with Millet rings.

EGW bases are cheaper and proven in the "tactical" market.  Burris XTR rings aren't bad for the price either, but I run IOR Valdada V-Tac rings for about $95 compared to the more expensive ones.

I know you said rail mount, but I have a used set of Leupold 2-piece standard bases, and a set of Leupold low rings, all are matte finish.  I bought them used, but they are in good shape.  I will sell them for $25.00 shipped with money order.  These are no longer available.

What diggler said....

Allow me to add that once you go over the IOR price point, you reach the land of diminishing returns. I had badger rings for 175.00 and No thanks. I like my Burris Xtreme and IOR gear. Great stuff for the price.

How are the EGW? I was always interested in them but never got around to trying them.

As far as bases, I have a very affordable weaver on the 700 in my signature, for the price it was a steal. Something like 30.00, maybe less??

I had an EGW, no problems whatsoever.  I'm currently running either Leupy or Nightforce bases with IOR rings, seems that when I can get them on sale they are hard to beat for the money.  I have run the Burris XTR with somewhat decent results.  For some reason I finally had to red Loctite the damn screws though to keep them from backing out while I was shooting, even with the blue Loctite.

Were they on a .308 and backed out?

I've had the opposite results, I've had 4 scopes in 2.5 years time and each time I went from a 1" pair to a 30mm pair and back and forth again, those screws were on there good and I recall asking myself if I really put them on that tight? If it ever happens to me, I'll ditch them but still very interested in EGW. Thanks for the info.

Leupold rings and base. Like Tigmaned said, solid as a rock.
