.250 Savage?
« on: October 08, 2003, 12:31:22 PM »
Wow, this contender thing becomes a habit pretty quick....

Ran across a contender frame with an SSK barrel chambered for 250 Savage.  Never shot this caliber, but looking at the data, it looks to pack some power.  My only concern - and I didn't think of it until I left - was that the barrel was short - I believe a 10 inch model.

Did a little searching, and it seems like the SSK barrels have a good reputation, as does the Savage 250.  Can anyone share their first hand experiences with either of these?

Thanks, Q

Hi Bill,

I have a stainless 14" SSK barrel in 250 Savage. It is a wonderful light recoiling, accurate, deer and varmint barrel. No wilcatting headaches either. I would not want a 10" barrel though, that is to short for this round in my opinion.

Best,
Tom

if you will scroll through the next few pages of this forum you will come across a couple of threads re: the 250 Savage.  Seems like a great contender barrell.
