Forearm drilled off-center?
« on: October 02, 2009, 04:23:40 AM »
These Handis keep luring me back in, I was looking at a camo-lam 7mm-08 yesterday in a local shop. While it was tight and locked-up nice, I noticed the plastic forearm spacer was off-center maybe 1/16-1/8" where it meets the recvr.
In your experience, is the spacer screwed on crooked or is the forearm drilled off-center and will it affect anything? I'm looking at the gun but he needs to come down some on it.
Thanks,

That's not uncommon, it's an easy fix by drilling the forend spacer mounting screw holes out and glueing wood dowels in, then redrilling the mount holes where the should be. If they also drilled the stud mounting hole off center, you can bed the forend and drill a new hole for it. Or just order a new forend and hope it's not screwed up too, except the camo lam forend has been out of stock lately.  :-\

Tim, does Choate make the camo forend?  If so, why can't he just return it as defective for a replacement?

Tim:
I haven't found any glue or epoxy that will stick to the synthetic stock, what are you using?

This topic pertains to a laminated wood stock with an attached forend spacer, the synthetic stocks don't have a spacer.

Pete, Choate doesn't make wood stocks, just synthetic, wood stocks(except the t-hole by Boyd's) are made by H&R in their new wood production facility.

Epoxy will work with the synthetic stock as does RTV silicone if you prepare the surface first by roughing it up with course sandpaper, it won't adhere to a smooth surface very well usually.

I'm sorry.  I thought we were talking about a synthetic.......there ya go....CRS strikes again.  He did say "camo Lam" and syns don't have spacers.....good morning, dumb butt.

Patty played with the band last night, and I was up til 1 a.m., and running again at 5:30.  I'm kinda pooped.
