As far as I know you can not tell what kind of rifling you have with the serial#. Best way to tell is to look down the barrel and count the lands and grooves. there should be only six of each. And most likely the ones marked Ilion NY ,will have Ultragon rifling. I did not see any Gardner MA with this rifling, they all have the old rifling with more rifling grooves. The reason I know all this is becausae I have been looking for a 20ga. USH for a few months and could not find one at a gun dealer with Ultragon Rifling. So I sent in my SB2 frame and had a barrel installed , called CS first and made shure the new barrel is Ultragon. They said all new barrels at the factory are Ultragon. Dealers and supliers still have the old ones they are getting rid of first. Unless you are lucky and they just received some new ones. I do not know if it is a better rifling since I do not have any experiance with the old rifling. The Ultragon barrel I received shoots very good, tried different slugs, most aren't too bad but the best seem to be the Remington Acutip . They are holdong a nice 2 1/2 group at 100yrds. 2 1/2'' high at 100yrds. should be right on 0 at 150yrds. (next time at the range I'll give it a try at 150yrds.

Not a big deal I guess. The old rifling made for very good shooter's also. What did it cost you to get re-barreled? I have a 12ga ultra I listed for sale. If it dont move quickly I might send it out this spring and do the same. Im getting to many slug gun's here..Along with front end loader's...lol Drop

Barrel with forend is 102.00    scope rail is also included.
fitting charge             20.00
shipping & handling    17.00
tax                              8.40
                                --------
 Total                       147.40
Cheaper then buying a whole new gun. Total time was 3wks from the day I sent it out to the day I received it back. By the way I put on a Mueller 3-9x40 Hybred, ( 119.00 )  has a longer eye relief. Fits great with Leupold Rifleman medium hight rings.

I just picked on one a few months back.  I was interested in the compact version.  When the shop had one in stock, I didn't even think to check the rifling.

Afterwards, I checked and my model has the old rifling.

Regardless, I could not be happier with the gun.  It shoots great.

Based on how good mine shoots, I can't believe the the new rifling is going to make that much of a difference.

I think the new rifling is no big deal...Heck, my USH 12GA shoots so good with Lightfield Hybreds I wouldn't want anything else.  Of course, I have no experience with the ultragon rifling.

I have one in a 12ga with the old rifling and the last time I had it to the range it clover leafed at 100 yards with cheap winchester rifled slugs! Have you shot it yet to see if it has the results you are looking for?? Give it a try before spending money on something that might not have any gains!!!!
