15" barrel extension to make legal with buttstock?
« on: October 08, 2003, 04:26:49 PM »
Has anyone had a barrel extension of any sorts installed on the 15" barrels to make them legal length with buttstock? If so what do you choose and where did you have it done. I have sent out a few emails to smiths that install breaks but I want one without any holes because I just want a legal length and no increased noise.

I was even thinking about installing a "bloop tube" Which is a sleeve that goes over the end of the barrel. I would have to solder it on but it would get me to legal length. Some benchrest shooters use the bloop tubes in the old days, some thought it helped stability as the bullet leaves the barrel. Has been proven wrong with time.
If it can't be done with a 50 bmg it can't be done at all.

Bozo Wize,

If it were me, I would just trade my 15 in. barrel for a 16 in. barrel, and you wouldn't have a modified barrel ( soldered or what ever ) to deal with.
Thats my 2 cents......

I agree with Tdot, 16" isn't going to seem much different than the 15" and you can use it either way.  KN

There are several brakes on the market that will make your 15 inch barrel 16 inch carbine legal...but then  you've gotta deal with the brake if that's a problem for you.

My delima is that TC for some odd reason doesn't make readily available 16" barrels and I have come to procure a ton of 15" factory barrels. I do not understand why they don't make them 1 inch longer it would be almost the same handeling as a 15 and the buyer could use them with a stock or grip.

What are the avaiable sources and price ranges for a 16" barrel. I can get all the TC factory barrels for under 200 shipped new and most of the custom people I have seen are wanting in upwards of 350 for a 16"

I have a 300 whisper in a 15' barrel.  I found it hard to hold, so I decided to make a barrel longer than 16' out of it.  I went to Brownells and found a 30 cal brake that the outside diameter was larger than my barrel.  Took it to a gun shop in Ruskin, and I had it installed.  I then chemically welded it to my barrel.   Since the gunsmith turned it to the same barrel diameter, I challenge you to tell that it was not part of the original configuration.  Makes a dandy rifle.

How much loader is that now? What was the part number on the brake?
