I was at an antique store today and saw an old rifle standing
it the corner. I thought it was a decorator rifle just for looks
but on closer inspection I found that the nipple was removable.
pulled it out and a flash hole was clearly visible into the breach.
I carry a little flashlight on my keychain so upon shining it into the bore,
I saw shallow rifling. This is no toy I thought to myself and the bore looked pretty
clean so I asked the owner how much. I walked out with it for $50.00.
I have no Idea now what I have but it is kind of neat none the less.
It is .45 caliber with a full musket type stock. 3 wierd looking brass bands
and a screw under the forearm hold the barel to the stock. right under the
nipple it is stamped "made in Brazil". The top of the barrel is stamped with
two unreadable words then CORP Washington D.C.
It has no rear sight and a silver bead on the front. anyone have any ideas?
I remember reading an article many years ago about something similar that was made
for shooting monkeys in the Amazon (as strange as it is I guess it would best a blowgun).
It also has a steel ramrod that is threaded like a screw on one end.
I assume to be used as a ball puller. It appears to be pretty old.
