substitution of wads
« on: October 04, 2009, 12:51:59 AM »
Can I substitute WAA12F114-12 for WAA12 in a 1 1/8 load safety.I am loading 24.5 of PB,Remington 209 primer, 8800 PSI,1250 FPS in Remington gun club hulls.I got this load data from Hodgton.I can`t get a good crimp with the WAA12,but can get a perfect crimp with the WAA12F114.I have adjusted more pressure on wad but still dosen`t crimp good.

According to the Hodgdon Reloading Guide 23.5 grains is the max load shown. If you made a typo you may need to back off just a bit to make it fit. Not all load data listed will fit in your hulls as advertised. I had this problem with some 20 gauge loads using Unique. The WAA12F114-12 wad is used for 1 1/4 oz loads. I would give Hodgdon a call and see if it would be okay or check in the reloading section at www.shotgunworld.com. Lots of knowlegable loader there. I could see where you may have some problems with your crimp being dished but adjustments on your loader would cure that. Hodgdon Clays or Alliant Clay Dot are both very good clean burning 12 gauge powders if you would like to try them. Loading data for both are the same.
