Ultra Compact?

Anything new out there in 40 or 45 smaller than a baby glock?

I think the Kahr guns are a wee bit smaller but have a LOT fewer rounds in their magazines.

Dad burn they have a wee bit higher price as well. :o
I stumbled on a site called mouseguns they have the dimensions on several. The problem is I carry a full sized springfield xd 45 with compact grip. I can hide it decent with an over shirt but looking for something a little less obvious and still staying above a 9mm if possible.

So let's turn the original question around a bit. What subcompact would you guys recommend? I end up carrying a 380 more often than anything in the warm months and would like to get away from that.

Keltec PF9 or 11 in 9mm is not much bigger than the ruger or keltec 380 and there is always the smith J frame in 38 SP. I never was much on the 9 either but it still beats the 380.

I am leaning a little towards a glock in 40 since that is my duty weapon. Would be nice since we swapped to 15 rnd mags and I have several 13 rnd mags that would fit the baby glock. To long for c/c but the 13 in a pocket would give a lot more piece of mind than 6. I guess I am just looking for something to get me out of a bad situation and to the vehicle where the playing field can be made a little more even. In a true shtf situation I will rely on a black rifle. Just thinking of bad times leading up to shtf when you need the firepower but not the attention.

It is very hard to go wrong with a Glock!!! Those little sub-compacts in large calibers are great as a conceal carry weapon but can bring lots of phyical problems down the road if you fire lots of rounds at the practice range.

I got rid of my sub-compact pistols for the above reason, the hand absorbs much more recoil on the thumb joint and that is not good trust me on that one. I carry a Glock model 29 but it has grip extension with this pistol, my others have full size grips. We shoot close to 800 or 1000 rds a month in pistol ammo.

Might look at the S&W M&P 40 and 45 Compacts.  They seem much smaller to me .

Arier,
How are you going to carry, Pocket, waist or ankle?  Is this the primary or backup?

Based on your answers there are several options ranging from a Rohrbaugh (9 mm pocket) S&W J frame in .357 mag to Glock or Sig Sauer, S&W M&P in .40 cal.

Waist inside the pants. Purely for self defense as primary, not for backup. I was able to get to a gun store yesterday about 50 miles away and didn't care very much for the trigger pull of a keltec.

I tried a 40 in baby glock a buddy has a year ago but I think his high ride holster was the problem. It was a pancake inside the pants holster that definitely made the pistol noticeable. Also too big for a pocket pistol. That's why I wanted smaller, but thinking back I believe he just had a bad carry rig and all would be well with a better set up.

340 PD S&W , its only 357 mag. but its small , light 12 oz's empty . great in a pocket .

I had no problems carrying a GLOCK model 26 or 27 inside my shorts front pocket! I wear jean shorts or cargo pants in the hot summer. I kept pistol in a pocket holster and all worked just fine.

The biggest problem one has with their CCW weapon, is when seated in the automobile. The seat belt restricts the ability to draw the pistol, especially if your right handed. I overcome this problem with a  crossdraw holster I keep in the truck or car. It goes with me just like my wallet. I try NEVER to leave my gun in the vehicle......to easy for someone to make off with your handgun, even if in a metal lock box.

Mine is a ppks in 380. The new ammunition coming out gives the little bullet more zip than before

The older I get the less I find myownself carring a pocket pistol.
Range time with them has become uncomfortable---I can do it but the larger are far more comfortable.
Now this is from a person who carried a PPK for about 40 years.
