Mr president I do not cling to either my gun or my Bible.... my gun is holstered on my side so I may carry my Bible and quote from it!

Thanks for this one, Rich. I'll echo Terry's comment, and add that while its not unusual to see European cannon clubs, its not often that you see all women clubs there, or here; I think that's a good developement for our hobby/sport.
RIP John. While on vacation July 4th 2013 in northern Wisconsin, he was ATVing with family and pulled ahead of everyone and took off at break-neck speed without a helmet. He lost control.....hit a tree....and the tree won.  He died instantly.

Allen,
They are from Finland. "Paksun Katariinan" is Finnish not Polish.  They appeared at the Battle of Grunwald in Poland. A reenactment of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and its allies against the Teutonic knights of Germany/Prussia in 1410. I was told by the owner, that the "Fat Catherine" barrel was made in the USA (maybe ordered through Poland?) but the assembly/wood & iron was done by the ladies themselves.

At any rate, it is nice to see that fat old guys do not universally dominate the hobby.

...but the assembly/wood & iron was done by the ladies themselves.

Doesn't surprise me. I have a cousin (1st once removed) in Finland. She and her Fiance did most of the construction of their house together a few years back. Not just designed it and hired a contractor; they (both in their late 20's while attending graduate school) built it themselves after having the foundation laid.

How many late-model gringos can boast of that?

The people who bought the barrel from me own or work for a museum.  If I remember correctly, The museum is a replica 15th century farm community with live history events and all that kind of neat stuff.  I'll find the link and post it.  As for the barrel, it required a serial number for registration [just like a firearm]  ::)  I shipped it bare steel and they coated it. The chamber is 1" diameter x 1-1/2" or 2" deep.  Dom

Don't know why I'm so slow on this one, but...could a scaled down "Fat Catherine" be made in Golf Ball size, with or without a powder chamber? And what would be the advantage to either type? Powder chamber would give you a Howitzer type; without, would it be classified as a Cannon? Same question for a scaled up model. BoomLover

Boomlover,  Yes to your first question.  I would build it with a powder chamber.  The advantage of the powder chamber in this type of setup is to centralize the reduced charge behind the projectile.  It also allows a smaller and lighter barrel to be constructed and still maintain a thick breech wall construction.
