Hunting in the Buffalo Narrows region
« on: October 09, 2003, 02:51:48 AM »
I will be going to the Buffalo Narrows region of Saskatchewan in November to hunt whitetails. Anyone ever hunted there? What kind of hunting conditions can I expect? What is the typical size of the deer harvested in that area?

which outfitter are you hunting with?? bear in mind, most hunting in sask. is done over bait for deer, but this year that has been phased out due to the rapid spread of cwd in that province.  our deer in western canada are a large body deer, 200 lb doe not uncommon. bucks in the 300 lb range common. this makes the rack look alot smaller than it is. if your outfitter is baiting, it may give you a good look at the rack. if you are hunting clearcuts or open areas from stand, same deal. just not as much time to judge the animal. don't forget to check out the c.f.c.'s website re. temp registration of your rifle when you get to the border. may save you alot of time. their website is:  www.cfc.gc.ca. any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

We will be filming a show for the Outdoor Channel and the hunting protion of the trip is being arranged by Bob Lozinsky of World Wide Wilderness Directory in Saskatoon. I don't know the outfitter's name yet.

:-D

Quite seriously, if you have not experienced a prarie winter before, please go prepared! You may have beautiful, sunny, warm weather (lets hope so) but you may also think you just stepped off in Antarctica.

Best of luck!  :D

Thanks for the feed back guys. I have some heavy duty thermax underwear and triplelayer Ravens wear wool bibs and hooded jacket from the last time I went bear hunting up near Cree lake. Should hold me over pretty good.
