Single six sight help
« on: October 05, 2009, 05:05:44 AM »
I was going to order a sight and thought it would be best to get help from you guys first. I bought the pistol without a front sight at all. It has been that way for 10 years or better. I can't figure if a bisley or stock sight would be better, to cheap for the fiber optic I found at $40. Numrich arms didn't have a different rear for the Bisley so I am assuming it is the same on both. I want to use it for target and hunting. So is the bisley a smaller blade? Any other options? I do have the stock rear on the new model single six.
Thanks a lot guys.

AB, the front and rear sights are the same on a single six regardless of which grip frame they have.  They are screwed on, so all you need is a front sight and a 6x48 screw. Numrich should have both or you can call Ruger and they will have both.  They can also answer any questions you might have about your sights.

You can also use the Patridge style front sight off the Ruger Mark II semi-auto.  Fits the single six about perfect!

Millett also makes an orange ramp sight for the Mark II that fits the single six just fine. I was shooting mine today, and really like how visable it is in different light.

Steve P is correct, the front sight off a T512 Mk. II for example, would work well, if you can find a used one. However, Ruger no longer stocks them and considers them obsolete. They are now replaced by a patridge front sight on the Mk. III which is not undercut, like those on the Mk. I and II were. They have a narrower base, and fit the single six perfectly. I recently bought 2 for a pair of 4 5/8" stainless Single Sixes, and really like them. The cost is about $9.50. They can be ordered through Ruger's parts department in Prescott. The height is just a few thousandths shorter than a Single- Six ramp, about .340" if I recall correctly.
