It's a fact that most of us are unknowingly in violation of dozens of laws every day. This orchid case doesn't surprise me in the least.

Nothing unusual about that. If a police officer follows a car for a mile or so that car WILL commit a violation of some sort to give probable cause to a traffic stop. Just take your typical court order. If it is not followed to the letter, a contempt charge can be easily argued. If the order states that you do something by 6pm, then at 6:01pm you are in contempt. No excuses except death.

when  was the last  time  you got out of jury  duty

had  i been  on that jurry  they would have  walked  away  with  a lawer  bill

thess  people  were  found guilty  by  a jury......unless they waived that right

we  have a democratically elected government

game and fish conducts a search and sieze of a home without a warrant, and without notifying the occupants of the suspected offenses, which in this case turned out to be inadvertant noncompliance with obscure shipping laws regarding the transfer of orchids of all things, and we put a 69yo man in jail. yep, sounds like the home of the free.

I just stood a wave of Captain's Masts and a Special Court Martial (as the Chaplain, not the accused). There are so many possible ways to charge someone now, a single UA can rack up 4 or 5 different Articles, with multiple specifications. I would imagine the civilian courts are even worse. It appears that we accuse by blitz now; throw a few dozen charges at them, hope that by the time a few are tossed out for illegal procedure, tossed by the judge, plea bargained, etc. there'll be one or two left sticking. Instead of just accusing of the one or two in the first place.

The orchid story should be a wake up call for anyone who ships any firearms or ammo related items.

Too many stupid laws. If you come to NY state, its against the law to shoot crows on tues, wed, or thurs.
Does that make sense to anybody? How the heck can anybody keep up? Its all about money and power.

One case of overcriminilization we had locally was of a man who was convicted of 1rst degree murder. His daughters ex boyfriend came over and started beating on the daughters new boyfriend. The ex boyfriend was a convicted felon who was on home monitoring awaiting trial on an assault charge on a MN state trooper. The father of the ex girlfriend came out with a knife and in the subsequent fight with the ex boyfriend stabbed and killed him.

The prosector would not even let the Grand Jury hear about the "victims" backround even when asked if they could talk to the Highway Patrolman. So the grand jury only givin the limited information indited the man on 1rst degree murder.

In the trial they would not allow the State Patrolman to testify to how dangerous the "victim" was.  The defendant was very poor and had a limited defence. Our county attourney got his conviction on 1rst degree murder. Luckily for this man he was givin a retrial, he decided to take a guilty plea on a The jurors when questioned after the trial and giving the facts on the "victim" said they would have  aquitted if they would have known how dangeroud the "victim" was.

The county attourny from the county that borders ours on the south said that the defendent in this case should have been givin a medal, not a trial.

99% of all Lawyers give the other 1% a bad name. What I find hilarious about this is they are such an arrogant bunch, that they all think they are in the 1%.
