Modifications to 30AS???

I have a Marlin 30AS that my folks gave me for my first deer rifle...I killed my first deer with it and put it in the gun cabinet and haven't hunted with it in 25 years...My question is can I get a thinner forend??? the stocks seem fat to me compared to some of the  other marlins I have looked at. Can I shorten the mag tube???  I like the look of the half mags better.. where would I look for these kinda mods?? thanks for the help Robbie

Any owner can slim their Marlin's forend with a rasp, sandpaper and some Tru-Oil stock refinish - but shortening the mag tube will take some hanger work to support the front of the mag tube farther towards the receiver than originally.
The tube itself is EZ to shorten, from the rear end, once it's disassembled.

I did just what you're thinking of to my 336.  If I remember, which is a BIG if, I'll take a picture.

thanks Guys...I would kinda rather get another forend...and save this one... anybody know a good place to send this gun to for the mods??? thanks Robbie
