I have a SL handi 22 hornet. It will handle a coyote at 200 if Ido my par.

;) Glendoc, and Billy, how long have you had your Swifts?????? Over the years I have had maybe half a dozen...., but my current one is my favorite, maybe my favorite big .22 of all of them. It is about 2000 rds. old and does show some wear, but it is a coyote killer. I have had better success with my Swift on coyotes than any of my other big .22's even my Cheetah.... :D

3 or 4 years ago I rebarreled my Savage 110 that was a 223. It has done some coyote killing.

Hello from Georgia,

I once again find myself thinking outside the box. All of the rounds discussed would be sufficient to dispatch a coyote, but then again. so would a 45/70. I have found them to be as accurate as almost anything available, and certainly good enough to take smaller game at 200 yards. "overkill" some may say, but I have killed a bunch of coyotes and have never encountered one that was "to dead". There are some very good lower velocity loads that can start a younger hunter, and then there is room to work up to Grizzly Bear level loads. A smaller cartridge may serve well, but a 45/70 is so much fun, you should at least get a barrell to fit the .223 you get. This is just the views of a regular old country boy from Georgia who likes to flip coyotes.

I have shot more coyotes with a 270 than anything else but coming in second is the 22-250.  However both the 223 and 222 have also killed coyotes nicely out past 200 yards.
