What to expect from H&R
« on: October 07, 2009, 01:48:45 PM »
After reading a few of the posts about service, I'm bracing for a long winter.

I ordered a BC stock yesterday and was told it was in stock and I should have it in 7 to 10 days, I won't hold my breath.

The big question is their BC barrels in 45/70.
I was also told they were in stock. I really don't feel like sending my receiver in only to maybe get it back in 6 months.

Any opinions or past experience?

Cancel the order and just buy a BC.  My decision has nothing to do with service and everything to do with my belief that you will never want to take that barrel or stock off once you shoot it.  I love mine so much my wife is afraid she'll find it laying on her side of the bed.

I thought about that but they're hard to find. The receiver I have is new and I thought I would find a used one to put the stock and barrel I have now, on. But then...I'm not having a lot of luck finding a used receiver in Va either. :(

Bud's not only has the BC in stock, but has a great price on it, $344 shipped! But if you're still wanting to get a barrel fitted, Ilion does a great job on barrels when they have them in stock, see the Ilion satisfaction poll sticky, most of the grumbling is due to out of stock barrels and misinformation from Madison CS.

If you get the BC as a full gun you get a case hardened reciever.

No you don't, you get the same SB2 investment cast alloy steel receiver that's on any Handi or Ultra, it's just got a fake case coloring on it, it's a far cry in appearance from a true case colored cast iron frame.

Some are nicer looking than others, most are rather washed out, but none look like real case coloring, even my 1991 20ga Pardner has a nicer looking case colored frame, older Toppers were real nice too.
