What grips for a RedHawk?

I have large hands and don't like the wooden grips on this used Redhawk I just bought.  This gun will be shot alot and often with some moderately stout loads.  This will be my primary boar-hunting gun and it will be shot often at the range.  I will need some good grips to help tame the recoil on the loads that I hunt with and also practice with.   

It is a blued gun and, I would prefer something other than black grips.  But, if the best large comfortable grips are black, so-be-it.  I'll buy them.  Buying several grips just to try them can be an expensive proposition!

I've never felt a more comfortable grip than a hogue.  As far as wood grips that look nice, I've never bought one.

For my Ruger RH I have the Hogue Mono grips in both rubber and nylon, and the Pachmayer presentation grip. Try looking for used grips on GunBroker, it's a cheaper way to try out different grips.
 
Unfortunately, all of them are too big for my hand (I wear a size 8 glove), so they might be just right for you. I really wish the Hogue Mono grip was smaller, because it really is comfortable and soaks up the recoil.

I got the nylon Hogue to whittle away on. The nylon material can be sanded away to customize the grip. I had taken off almost enough to fit my hand when I noticed a small hole where I had broken through ! And I was even checking thickness the best I could without inside calipers. The only rubber grip left to for me try is the Pachmayer Gripper, but it's $30, and I  have no reason to believe it's any smaller than their Presentation.

I prefer the Monogrips by Hogue.  With the finger grooves, I get the same grip each time I grab it and control is much better for me.  My Redhawk is a 5 1/2 in stainless in 45 Colt running 310gr Keith SWCs on top of 24 gr H-110, so recoil is stout.  DP

Personally , I like the Hogue monogrip.......I've got two, one on a SRH 454 and one on my 4" Redhawk.  Work great , and are comfortable for me.  I wear a 9 glove.  regards, irold
