Is there a chest rig for a RedHawk 5 1/2 inch?

I am about to pick up my pawn-shop 5 1/2 inch Redhawk.  Along with a Marlin lever-action .44 magnum, this will be my hog-hunting rig.  Years ago I hunted with a 629 side-carry and, it would hang-up really bad in thickets.  A steady diet of heavy loads worked that 629 loose like a baby-rattle.  A friend just had to have it so, I sold it to him.  Cheap!  Big mistake, S & W put it back in perfect shape for less than HALF the cost of a new one.

The question;  Is there a chest-carry rig that the RedHawk will fit in?  Also, I'm a big guy 6'1" 325 pounds.  Midway did not have anything.  Has anyone used a hunting holster-rig that solves the side-carry problems?

  Sorry guys, I normally do a search before posting.  I found the post just below here dealing with chest-rigs.  They are too expensive.  It looks like I'm gonna have to learn leather-craft real quick.  If anyone knows of some cheaper rigs, please post.

I found the rig I can afford.  Bianchi 4100 shoulder/chest set-up.  $64.00 free shipping.  Anyone have one?

All-around quality, bang-for-buck, etc. Have an interesting chest setup I'd like to get around to trying.

I would think that the simply rugged in the pants would work great.  Remember, the trick to in the pants is to buy some pants bigger than normal so both you and the gun fit.  Example: if you normally wear 36 waist buy 38 waist.  Works fine for me! 8)

Uncle Mike's makes a nice in front of the chest flap carry rig. I use it for my .44 Redhawk with scope. I am 6'2", 260 pounds.

Bought simplyrugged pancake holster & chest rig for my 6in. S&W M66 and was very pleased. You should have no prob getting a great fit.

Hey Rawhidekid:  gotta tellya I'm not so sure aout the larger pants thing.  Just packing a inside the belt holster for a semi-auto of medium to large size, or just stuffing the pistol into my belt,  means I have to tighten up my size 36 belt on my size 36 pants to the last notch to maintain retention, and I'm not putting any more notches in my belt.

I can tellya from personal experience that larger pants and belts don't work for me.  If I ever went to a size 38 set-up the guys at the huntin' camp would bar me for life on accounta the pants, belt and entire rig would be down around my ankles and they aren't the kind of guys who would appreciate that.....

As guys get older, and I hope you experience this phenomenon in some fashion or another, we (some of us) lose those tight butts the gals crow so much about; they tend to head south a bit along with the ability to retain additional weight on the belt and keep our pants up.  And for some dang reason tightening our belt to keep our pants up seems to put a bit too much pressure on our backs and causes us to act and feel like ole men.  Aw geez, now I feel old...........where's my oat bran..............

Maybe I am one of theose vain guys that wear their pants too tight and that is why the need for the next size up?  I am 60 years old now and fight between a size 34 or 36 pants without the handgun.  But if I had a dollar for every guy fighting the holster and gun because of too tight a tenchen I could buy another gun. ;D  Sides as I get older the hips seem to get bigger not smaller. 8)

  Try   Davidjohnstonleather.com   He has just what you are looking for.  Its called the guides choice.  Its a beautiful holster.  I also have a 5 1/2 redhawk.  I love it.
  You may want to call him instead of e/mailing him.  I tried to e/mail him, and he never got back with me.  So I went to Tandy leather and bought what I needed and made one myself.  Just by looking at the pics.  It turned out great.

Check out this guy too for a holster.  I have one for my S&W 657 Mountain gun and really like it, except the metal clips sometimes are a bother. http://www.alaskasportsmanproducts.com/

I find myself much less fatigued carrying it in this than in a belt holster, and it doesn't get caught in my knapsack or pack frame. You can put it on your belt but its a little bulky.

I too have heard good stuff about Simply Rugged - didn't know he moved to AZ.

Yep, check out Rob at Simply Rugged.

Nice guy.  Liked it better when he lived a couple blocks from me, but that was before the days of "Simply Rugged".

Had a chance to shoot with him a time or two and he worked at my local hunting/fishing store for a number of years.

As per carry of a Redhawk 5.5", I really like a left side butt forward cross draw rig.

Get a high ride in the above, and it is out of the way, and very quick to get at.

I like to carry mine just ahead of left center, which puts the butt in a position above the left pocket.

Out of the way if your right handed, rides nice if your in a rig or on the 4wheeler.

Make sure to get yours made to fit the belt you always use hunting.  Otherwise, there will be some floping around which would be a real negative with a big handgun like the RH.

I have one for my 7 1/2 inch Redhawk. I like it lots.  Very comfortable.  Have used it for over twenty years.  See no reason to change to leather.

I forgot about this thread since early October.  I finally decided on and, bought the chest rig from Wes Daems in Montana.  Either me or, one of my four sons, wears the Redhawk whether we are hunting deer, rabbits or even duck hunting.  Due to the huge numbers of hogs in our hunting area, we are very likely to have an opportunity for a shot on a hog whatever we are hunting. 

This rig is rock-solid in the thickets and keeps the Redhawk tight.  Right where I want it.  It never interferes with us shooting our rifles or shotguns.  Riding the 4-wheelers, it's the grits!  Yet, it is perfectly situated for quick access.  I am nearly 300 pounds and 6 feet tall and this rig wears perfectly.  Even when I wear it over my insulated hunting parka.  My sons are not nearly as big as me and, they wear this rig just as comfortably.  Although, we all choose to wear it in slightly different positions.  When all we had was the hip-worn rig, no one wanted to carry a handgun. 

My daughter-in-law is very petite (5.0" 95lbs) and, she has worn it all day without a problem.  I wouldda been regularly carrying a handgun while hunting years ago if I would have known I could carry one this comfortably.
