Magtech brass or 444 Marlin for .410
« on: October 10, 2009, 12:50:54 PM »
I want to try my hand at reloading some brass shot shells for my .410. Is there a significant difference between the Magtech brass and 444 Marlin brass as far as reloadability or life? Thanks    JamesIII

I use the mag tech brass and have good luck, as long as you can get a tight fit with the poly or fiber wads. What I did was to run the brass shell up as far as it would go in a 44 mag die and it put a sight neck on it. This allowed tight seating of the wad and enough pressure to be accurate.

I was planning on trying a thin, tight fitting wad card and then a standard shot wad and an overshot card or just glue. The sizing or slight necking of the case is an interesting idea, I may play with that also. Does working the case cause shorter case life or is it so little that it is not detrimental to case life? Thanks JamesIII

I have yet to wear one out! The neck that is created is ever so slight and does not shoot back out when firing with normal loads. By slightly necking the case down, the standard poly wads work excellent.  I then just use small overshot cards i cut out of milk carton and glue to seal them up.  I shoot lots of these through a 45 LC/410 Commanche pistol and the recoil is not too bad at all.
