A family that kicks together sticks together!!!
« on: October 10, 2009, 03:37:06 PM »
I am proud to announce that Evan Kyle Smyth age 6 and Bradley Allan Smyth age 4 are now Yellow Belts in TaeKwonDo.  They did their form and one steps in front of a panel of judges(including myself) this morning and earned the new rank.  They were soooooooo cute!  Matt brought the baby to watch and he was dying to get out there with us.  :o  They are doing what I love, and I am loving it!!!

Very cool.  And congratulations.

My daughter just competed in her first Junior Bible Quiz event today and did very well, buzzing in and answering several questions correctly.  Her team placed second in their division.   Mom and I are so proud of them and especially of our daughter.   Angel's coach placed her on the advanced team even though this is her first year participating so she was competing with kids with two or three years experience.

I remember participating in sports as a youngster about 9 or 10, scouts included.
The interest show by adults in such participation goes a long way in teaching a child and building confidence that the thing/things he/she are doing are good and correct.
it is important to let your kids know when they are doing good things---no matter the skill level they have.
Parents put too much importance on the skill level and too little on the importance of participating on whether what they are doing is good.
If a child does bad things and the parents say, "OH, he is a good kid" that reinforces that what he is doing is good.

agreed .. i just about decided my kid didn t need to play baseball in pony league or something.. i saw the coach take his own son to nothing for making a throw that pulled my sons foot off first base.....he spent 5 min browbeating that kid..
i literally told my son it didn t interest me anymore..next thing i know they asking me to possibly coach ..
sorry i worked most saturdays an in that case,, was glad i had an valid excuse... i secretly always knew it was because fred had real power an hit the long ball well..so they didn t want to lose him even if i was part of the package :)slim

Glad to see the boys are enjoying TaeKwonDo. Both my boys were into it for 3-4 years, both made red belts. But, as usual, wanted to try somethiong else. So both dropped out. Youngest is now into soccer, and both are on the school bowling league. Good thing to keep them active, and as little tv/'puter time as neccesary. gypsyman
