button-rifled
« on: October 10, 2009, 05:53:43 PM »
Are all of the H&R barrels   button-rifled     - When did the botton rifleing start for their barrels?  Can I get A older barrel without botton rifling?   Aren't the new plans for hammer forged barrels  --- and won't  that shoot cast bullet better / copper too? -- When will the new barrel line be up and running ?

Thanks for all the info I get on this form !

All current and recent production since 1987 are button rifled, I don't think the hammer forged facility is up and running yet, I'll post when I find out more. You get what they have in stock,  just be glad if they have the chambering you want when they get to your order!

OK thanks ... Most gun makers are botton rifling,,   I can't afford to look at the high end guns.  But a local smith thought hammerd rifling was the way to go - maybe a old fashion idea --  I don't know..
I'd like to try their new barrels when they get to the market  Dan

I won't debate on it, but both rifling methods can produce excellent accuracy. Even with cast from all I have read.
Still I agree, I am curious to see how some of the new HF barrels will perform...
