Bad new's boy's.
« on: October 11, 2009, 12:49:16 AM »
Well I guess all good things must end,so here it is. Dan and Helen  have made a career move, and Dan now live's in Seminole Texas doing what he loves best, farming and driveing big tractors. There's not alot of P.D.'s down there,so it looks like the shoot at Hooker is over.I don't think any of us can manage such a event on our own,and it looks like Wes is going to be away also,so unless any else has some ideas, its over for the best bunch of shooter's I've ever met.  :( :( :(  Digger

Not a surprise to me since you and I have been discussing this possibility for some while now. Still it's sad to see such an event end but honestly I just don't see how we can keep it going with Dan and Wes both out of the picture. It was fun while it lasted. I got to attend three of the five.

Has Dan's house sold yet?

Kurt, its funny you mentioned a hog problem for Dan,thats exactly what he's doing today. He dug some penuts yesterday, and is shooting hogs today on that field. And of course he gets to shoot coyote's at night while digging the peanuts at night.I'm going out to Seminole at thanksgiving, and take the kids to Carlsbad Caverns while ther're out of school.I'm going to take Dan up in the Linclon National forest and show him some record book muley's that he can bowhunt for.
Maybe we can get together and send this couple something nice for Christmas,we certainly owe them something for all they've done for us.   Digger

WoW!  Seminole Texas?  I stayed out there for 2 months at some ragtag motel while working in Denver City, Lemesa, Tahoka Texas, and Hobbs NM.

Lots of nothing but farmland for him to plow there.

I hate to see it end, mostly because of all the great folks that I have met over the three years I have attended.  The way I look at it, we had some awfully good hunts, great food, and good friendships made, thanks to Dan and Helen and all the locals that help put this together for us.  Met people from all over, that I would have never met that share the same interests that I do, and we helped control the PD population!  Digger, give me a call and let's see what we can do for the Gibson's.

With my bottom lip twitching and holding back tears i can honestly say, that was one of the best hunting get togethers I have ever had. I am sad to see it go. However, I am happy to see Dan move on to something he wants to do.

I am a little late on this. 2009 was my first year and only, it looks like. I had already circled the first week in June for next year and laying in shooting supplies for next year's shoot. Thank You Dan and Helen for being excellent hosts - I wish you the best. I sure appreciated the opportunity to meet many fine folks at this years shoot. And especially meeting Bill and his wife - Just so many good folks.

Marv - I was going to be bringing that Handi 22 K Hornet along - it sure shoots sweet.
Great men have vision and resolve to make dreams come true.

Knowing how folks are in the OK. panhandle if you got hold of the
motel where you stayed they might be able to hook you up with someone.
If they knew they knew their would several rooms to rent.
Just a thought. Don't cost much to ask.

I know here in Montana, all it takes is some door knocking to get access.  Ranchers hate the little buggers, Farmers hate the little pest that eat their wheat and build the mounds.  So this can be a win win situation.

Before winter is over, I plan on making a road trip across Montana where known P Dog towns exist  ;D  And yes, if even for helping of mending fence lines etc is the price for access, we will do that to.

Well-as usual I'm running late on this bad news. I was lucky enough to make 3 of the 5, and will really miss the chance to get together with all of you this June. I want to give a BIG  THANK YOU to Dan and Helen for welcoming all of us to their home for the past few years and for putting on a great PD hunt.
