7600 J-lock
« on: October 11, 2009, 10:09:17 AM »
What's it take to put a standard safety in a 7600 with a J-Lock?

My 700 bolt gun is in the shop and I may have to pull the 7600 out to hunt with.   Actually, no I wouldn't have to, because I have other 700's, but I might want to.  I despise the idea of the J-lock to start with.

Then just don't use it. The simple solution is to make sure it is unlocked and forget it's there. It won't become locked accidentally and if unlocked there is no real reason to even think about it or remember it's there.

As bill said,"then don't use it". The J lock on my 7600 has never locked on me.

What is a J lock ??

It's a safety lock that prevents you from moving the safety to the "fire" position.  There is a key to engage or disengage the feature.  It is shaped like a "J" hence the nickname.

Thanks for the input.  I guess I'll just set it on "red" and leave it.  It still bugs me though - how many "safety devices" does one have to have?

Yeah, when I bought mine I unlocked it and threw away the key. Has never given me problems.

schoolmaster , I took one J lock and rolled it up in a paper towel and slid it into my butt stock. I'm a "what if ?" type guy. ;)
