It was ole Roy's favorite of them all and he sure used it for elk. I have one tho I doubt it will ever go elk hunting nor will I most likely. What bullet ya using for elk? Were I do to it I think I'd go with the Nosler PT in 115 or 120 or a Barnes if they shot well enough. The two Noslers plus the 110 AB are what I hope to work up loads for in mine.

It will work fine. In my youth I used my 25-06 with 120 core locts and the Elk hadn't heard that this was not enough gun for them. Worked fine had no losses and out of the 5 only one didn't pass completly through. That one was a quartering away shot and it stopped on the off side skin after breaking the off side shoulder.

The weatherby dealer in Petersburg AK uses the 257 weatherby for all his big game hunting. Believe it or not, he uses the 117 gr sierra boatail and 4831 powder.  ;)

257 Weatherby for Elk, yep no problem.

I load 120 gr Nosler Partition with IMR-7828, super accurate.

Many an elk fell to a friends 257 Roberts in Wyoming during the youthful days when he did not "know" better than to use a quarter caliber - Rem Corloks - stalk close, one in the boiler room and sometimes a bit of follow up tracking. I would not hesitate to use my 257 Weatherby on an elk with today's assortment of bullets how can you "miss".

What unit?  Guided or DIY?  Sounds like a nice bull, can't wait to see the pics.
