I've had an Oregon 300 since last November. I have no complaints. I loaded City Navigator NT, all of the US and Ontario Canada. Plus most of the north east US topo maps on a 2 gb mini sd card. Comparing with my Nuvi and 60csx. for road use they are all right there. I basically use mine Oregon for geocaching and it hasn't let me down well maybe once I had a compass problem after I downloaded a beta version of firmware. Fortunately Garmin released the new version.3.20 and corrected this problem. I have no experience with the Dakota, but I'm very happy with the 300. Compare the features and the price and see what fits your needs. Garmin makes a good product. Good luck.
