New spot for publicby Charlie Meyers, The Denver PostPosted: 10/14/2009 01:00:00 AM MDTThe formerly private Centennial Hunt Club, a 710-acre property southeast of Jackson Lake in Morgan County, has been opened to the public. Now called Andrick Ponds, the property will be open to limited waterfowl hunting until Nov. 30 on Saturdays, Sundays, Wednesdays and holidays. Four parcels are open with several more opening Nov. 7.
"This will be a jewel of a wildlife area for waterfowl hunters," said Steve Yamashita, a state Division of Wildlife manager.
While hunting will be limited to waterfowl this season, future opportunities may be expected to include deer, turkey and other small game. Reservations may be made by calling the DOW system, 1-800-846-0453. The purchase was made using Habitat Stamp and Great Outdoors Colorado funds.
Crash courses.Hunters born after Jan. 1, 1949, may obtain a big-game license through a one-day hunter crash course. The courses are taught during one eight-hour day intensive session within one week of a regular big-game rifle season.
