Just finished up squirrel hunting yesterday evening and the fella that owns the woods I was hunting in drove past and turned around and followed me into my driveway. Asked how the hunting was then asked if I wanted to go with him trap shooting at a nearby club. Now understand that I'm not much of a wingshooter and never have been. I reluctantly agreed to go and although he offered up the use of one of his guns, I elected to take the double. Got there and found it was a bunch of older guys who liked to BS and drink coffee.(some of my favorite things) Anyway, these guys started uncasing $5000 and up guns. Talk about feeling outclassed! All of these guys were great and not one of them looked down their nose at my old cheap Harrington Richardson SxS. Now I would like to tell you that I outshot them all and went home the hero but alas, their shooting was comensurate with their hardware. Now this is not to say that I was the only one missing but I sure missed a heck of a lot more than they did.
I had a great time and now have a sore shoulder.
Toward the end of the evening I was starting to get dialed in a little bit and was breaking them a little more regularly. My friend told me on the way home that there are guys that show up sometimes with old single shots and they shoot just as well as the guys with the expensive iron. Just goes to show that the old adage of "it's not the gun, it's the shooter" holds true. I might have to make this a Tuesday night ritual.
