Horn. 180 .358 dia. SP SS/PB
« on: October 14, 2009, 04:05:31 PM »
I have a nef .357 that will chamber 360 DW, can I safley load the .358 dia. bullet in the 360 w/o pressure problems. I did a serch and did not come up with anything. Also any load data or sight that I may go to would be a great help. The barrel will almost chamber a 357 max, I trim 357 max. brass to fit the chamber I would also like to load this bullet if I can in this brass if O.A.L. wont be a problem.Thank's for any help.
an unloaded wepon is equal to the same mass and volume as a rock.

NO!

You should NEVER EVER try to fire a round in your rifle that it is not chambered for. If you wish to fire rounds longer than it is chambered to then rechamber it to the longer round. The guys on the NEF forum have a reamer they pass around to rechamber them to .357 max. Unless you do that stick to firting .357 magnum only in it.

FULLY AGREE

To explain this a little, most likely your chamber was cut with a long throat or cut with a reamer made to cut revolver cylinders and not SS barrels. Just because you can fit a .360 DW piece of brass in it, does not mean it was designed to shoot that case. You may be able to develop some loads that would be safe, but I would not attempt it without knowing exactly what that chamber looks like. There is a possibility that you barrel can be used for such a venture, but you need to #1 know what the chamber is spec'ed to (have a cast made) and then through careful load development, develop a load. Better yet, have it properly chambered for the .360 or .357 Max and be done with all the internal stress of "will this work, or will I kill myself?"

And it will only take a few minutes to ream it out to the max.  Almost as easy as sharpening a pencil. :D  DP
