Avid Revolver Fan Plans to Buy a Glock...But......
« on: October 15, 2009, 10:25:04 AM »
I have a question.
I want to purchase a 10 MM Glock for carry and travel, however it seems that .40 brass is about the most abundant at our range (I reload almost every round I shoot).  So my question is this:
Can I shoot .40 S&W through a 10mm Glock or is there too much difference in the length of the cartridges to allow the ignition of the .40 round?  If this is so, is it possible to purchase a .40 S&W barrel to slip into the 10 MM Glock to use for cheaper practice?  Do I need to change springs to accomplish this?

Am I just barking up the wrong tree on this topic?

Thanks...I'm lost when it comes to brass pukers...er...I mean semi-autos :D

You can buy a .40 S&W barrel for your G20, no need to change springs and you can even use the 10mm magazines.

The .40 barrel is a wise addition for the mdl 20. There is lots of .40 brass to be found at ranges. 10mm on the other hand is rare. I have a .40 barrel for my 10mm. Sure takes the pressure off by not having to scrounge for lost 10mm brass. Can't remember the last time I shot the 10mm. I have ammo loaded up for when the mood hits me though!

Cayoot, I will just remind YOU, to train yourself with that Glock pistol, in such a way as to NOT put that index finger on the trigger guard like so many revolver shooters seem to do. The Glock has a 5.5-lb trigger pull and those people who don't train their hand (index finger) properly when holstering the pistol, end up with the pistol going BANG and getting hurt. Some food for thought! Good Luck with your Glock too ok.

Never shot a 10mm Glock, so I might be blowing hot air, but I thought the Glock 10mm was based on the larger, .45 acp sized frame?  A 10mm based on the 9mm/40 cal frame size would be a nice woods carry gun.  I Guess I should look it up....:)

Larry, you are correct sir. The fullsize 10mm is the mdl20, same size as the .45 mdl21. The smaller 10mm is the mdl 29, it's the same size as the mdl 30. It's faitly compact, as far as Glocks go.   ;D

Big Easy, now are you referring to GLOCKS 45acp frame?

Cayoot, I would not advise on the purchase of a model 29 sub-compact, until you get used to shooting a full size 10mm pistol first, as it makes the transition over to the smaller grip a bit easyier. Now firing a lot of ammo in a sub-compact like a 10mm can be a problem for some people......trial & error I suppose.

OK, I see.. You can install a .40 barrel in a Glock 10mm/45 size frame, but not a 10mm barrel in a smaller Glock .40/9mm frame..
