Chamfer chamber or not?
« on: October 15, 2009, 04:42:00 PM »
My 223 will shave brass off the cartrige case when you insert a round unless you hold pressure down on the round . The pressure of the ectractor holds the brass up and let a small shaveing of brass to fall in to the reciver.  Should I brake this sharp edge over with a very slight chamfer? I know it has to be very slight.      ???     Thanks for the info,I try to check out the posting's every dayany I enjoy input from the group.  26-t

That would help a lot, they don't do much finishing on the parts after they machine them, I'd just touch it with a stone to take the edge off. If that doesn't help, you can flatten the spring a little, you have to remove the rear roll pin to removed the extractor, pics in the FAQs.

On any rifle I chamber I break that edge just to stop the exact problem you are having. If you look at most factory chambers they have a rounded edge on the chamber

I have used a case chamfering tool for this very thing. I just put it into the hole and give it a couple of turns by hand to cut the edge off. I have done this with bolt guns too to help out getting the case mouth hung up on the chamber edge. Good Luck and Good Shooting

;D 2 turns by hand with a 5 flute chamfer tool is all it took to smooth out the edge of the chamber.                                                              It worked out great!                             Thanks for the info.         26-t
