North American Hunting Club
« on: October 16, 2009, 11:32:27 AM »
Recently, I began getting (unsolicited) magazines from these folks.  Then I started getting irritated letters demanding payment for the membership that I (did not) sign up for.  I called the 1-800 number provided, and all the operator could tell me is that as long as they had my e-mail address, Imy application for membership was considered valid. I cancelled, not because they aren't a fine organization, which they are, but because I didn't want the membrship.

Has any one else run into this problem, with NAHC or any organization for hunting/fishing membership?  Just wondering if it was a prank, or a poor marketing technique.

Their magazine would be worth the cost ONLY if free. They are notorious for sending out stuff not solicited and then trying to force you to pay for it even tho you are under no legal obligation to do so. It took me years to break them of it. I'm a member only because I am a life member and became one before I realized just what kinda outfit they are. I would not recommend membership to anyone.

My advice is to just toss any and everything you get from them in the trash it is the proper place for it. I was a charter member and back then they made a lot of promises few if any of which have been kept. It's just a money grubbing outfit that exists solely to make the owners rich and to let their staff enjoy free hunts at the member's expense. Way back in the early days they use member's money to buy up thousands maybe tens of thousands of acres that was to be used only by members. There has been no mention of it in years. I'm sure they still own it and use it as a private hunting ground for Bill Miller and the rest of the staff. I'll bet a member would play hell getting access.

Same here. It seemed like a good deal and I went with the life membership. I was really interested in the product testing. The only things I have ever been given to "feild test" were cheap peices of junk. Some camouflage stickers you put on your face and a cheap plastic lantern. All junk really.

The one thing I am still interested in is the member hunts but I haven't researched them to know if it's a good deal or not.

Nope Jim not really a good deal. You get to pay for Bill Miller to hunt with you and the price you pay for the hunt is scaled up to account for that. I'm quite sure you could do the same hunt with the same outfitter without Bill there for less or at worse the same money. There is no discount on them or anything associated with NAHC.

I'm sure it would be fun to go on such a hunt with a bunch of like minded individuals but then if you go on a guided hunt at any sort of hunting lodge you are in effect doing just that. If there is a real upside to the NAHC I've yet to see it and I've been a member since the organization began as I was a charter member.

Shootall,

Everyone should be aware that US postal regulations say no one is under any obligation to return un-ordered merchandise.  You may keep it or throw it away.  Your option.  Years ago NAHC sent me an unordered book.  I kept it and did not pay.  That was all it took.  They have never sent me anything unordered since.

A word of caution: For this to work, make sure you haven't signed up for any program in the past and forgotten about it.   If you started taking things on approval, it may be much more difficult to get them to "cease and desist"

That's exactly right and my experience also.  They called me trying to get me to pay for whatever it was they sent me and I told them to kiss off.  Haven't heard from them since.   ;D

If you return it they will keep on sending in hope you'll buy some future shipment. Just keep or toss into the trash whatever they send you. Do the same to the bills they send as you are under no legal obligation to pay or or to return items sent to you that you do not ask for. Eventually they get the message.

I too am sorry that I joined that club. When they sent the book about biggest whitetails or some such item, I know I didn't order it. Kept it. But the one that got me mad, was a book they sent me with ALL of the life members AND, their address's listed. They got a hot phone call from me about that one. Still get the magazine, never ordered, or will I ever, order anything from them.
Just got a ''bill'' in the mail just a couple days ago, from the North American Fishing Club. Said it was an overdue bill for a subscription. Wife called the 800 number, and got the run around about our name on the list, and IF you want, they wiil set us up with a subscription. She politley declined. But, that's how they get people hooked. Some people would just sent in the money.  gypsyman

I used to get books, letters, and these cheesy water bottles all the time but they must have gave up since it hasn't happened in a few years.

I became a life member back in the day....promises of product testing and whatnot.  Pisses me off that to test stuff, you pay probably triple what you could buy the product for otherwise.

So much for free stuff to test.

I could care less if they ever sent me anything again.

I consider the mag pretty worthless.
