It's in the FAQs, ~.650" for standard, ~.800" for bull, big bores will be bigger.

Thanks Tim,
I looked in the FAQs, must have looked in the wrong place.
I just picked up a second hand .223 NEF with a brown laminate stock. Serial number puts it as being made in 2004.( The golden years of H&R).
I have a 2004 catalogue and it was'nt in it.
I'm still waiting for my permit to come back, so I hav'nt shot it yet.  I traded a heavy barreled Ruger 77 in .220 Swift for it. Thats how bad I wanted a Handi.  I'll put a 3 to 12 x 56 Nikko Stirling scope on it and then I'll be set for whacking foxes.
Thanks for your help,  Regards Jon.

Jon, What do you think of the Nikko Stirling scopes. They seem to be popular down there. I thought of trying one last year and the optics guys didn't give them a good review. Think it was a low powered lighted dot for night pred hunting. You may want to load the 223 down a bit for fox. Do you keep the hide?

Hey Bigvarmnt,
I have been using nikko stirling scopes since the 70s. They are very good value for money.
No idea what they cost in the states, but I can get the 3 to 12 X 56 illuminated for about $250 aus. They have a lifetime warranty and are nice and clear.
I will be loading the .223 down, purely for less noise. No I don't keep the skins, used to when I was a kid and needed the money. Too lazy now..lol
